Why is it not "you are dancing ..." When in almost every other question this course the -ing is preferred. A little bit inconsistent. I feel like both options should be accepted. In almost every present tense question.

Yes, they should both be accepted. You can report sentences like these, Duolingo doesn't know yet that they both work.
