In UK we lay The table we don't set it ,!

"Set the table" is still the more common expression in the UK, actually, although increasingly sounds a bit old-fashioned.

edit: Proof that "set" is more common in British English, by a very wide margin

Nobody wants to set the table for dinner. Accepted :)

I saw "Personne ne veut mettre la table pour le dîner." Why is there no "pas" to complete the negative? Doesn't it need "ne veut pas"?

Ne personne is one of the negative forms, in this case the personne comes first.

"Nobody wants to lay the table for dinner" accepted 06/04/21

Just nitpicking... you may want to capitalise "Personne"

Y'all dont wanna eat?

I have the same question as Allie, why there is no "pas" in this sentence?

I made the same mistake on another lesson. It seems that the negative construction is ne .... personne (although it's used as personne ne for the purposes of this sentence) so there's no need for 'pas'.

should accept nobody for no one

It is accepted.

I'd argue that "no one wants to make the table for dinner" should be accepted

I don't see how you could possibly argue that, but go ahead then, I'll bite.

ok, set the table is the only valid idiom for mettre la table

Not the only one, "lay the table" should work, but the table was probably made, and then purchased, quite some time before the dinner was prepared. Probably years before.

nobody should be accepted as a right answer alongside no one. my Larousse translates it as nobody so why not Duo????

"Nobody" is accepted. The fault must have been in the remainder of your response.
