Outside Duolingo Practice? (Writing Sentences)

I want to practice writing sentences in French, but I don't know how to begin. If you have any suggestions for books I should buy or websites I should visit for help, that would be good. Just tell me what you do to practice French aside from Duolingo.

Pick a photo and describe it. Explain how to do something. Write about your last holiday. Say what you want to do in the future (maybe even use the conditional - "If I came into a lot of money, I would ....".

There's a language app called Babbel, you might have heard of it...

I've tried Babbel, but it seemed very limited and I just couldn't stick with it.

Sorry to hear that. Maybe you'll find a book that has both French and English.

Maybe do a language diary? Just like a normal diary but in your target language. Maybe just do a paragraph about your day before you go to bed.

This is an old fashioned book, which might be useful because it gives you translation exercises to do: https://archive.org/details/20140127TYFRFULLBOOK/page/n31/mode/2up

I was thinking it would give you practice in sentence construction.
