Does "en panne" apply to motors that are broken, whereas casse{accent} is used when something is physically separated into pieces?

You can also use cassé when a machine doesn't work anymore.

That's my understanding. Actually, en panne isn't always a motor, but something complex like un vélo ou un robinet.
