To confirm my understanding, tässä is "here" but for something small, and täällä is also "here" but for something large, correct? Eg Kissa on tässä, museo on täällä

No, tässä is more like right here and täällä is around here, it has nothing to do with the size of the thing in question :)

Right here would be 'tässä'. It's very close to the speaker when 'täällä' (over here) is not that close (but it can be seen at least)
