I think the appropriate translation should be "They forgot to give us the instructions for the baby". This answer was accepted.

They should have downloaded it.

Actually I got user manual for my baby. Unfortunately, it didn't much help; my baby didn't sleep much for 3½ years, and so didn't I. I don't remember anything about that time.

I was thinking the same. Glad someone else thought that, too.

Why isn't "They forgot to give us the user manual of the baby." acceptable as a translation?

I wrote the same and lost a heart... I think it's a valid translation.

I put "They forgot to give us the user's manual for the baby" and it was marked wrong.

In France, do they give women a "user manual" when they discharge a woman from maternity?

Written this way around the English means the manual the baby would use... gurgle, gurgle!
