Having a hard time pronouncing the r's at the beginning of words

Whenever I try to say words like rouge, rue, de rein, etc. I either pronounce it as the English way of pronouncing it, but most of the time I tend to roll my r's (have been speaking Russian since I was little). Is there a way to pronounce words that I listed above and similar the right way fairly easily or do I just have to keep practicing?

You'll simply have to continue to practice, like any acquired skill.

One resource that might help you is https://forvo.com/ . You can put in any word and it will return one or several example recordings of it being spoken.

It's funny because I have the OPPOSITE problem. I can't for the LIFE of me roll my r's. I kind of just keep my tongue towards the back of my mouth but I can't do anything with it? Any tips?

The only advice I can really give is my personal experience so, take a big breath of air, put up your tongue to the top of your mouth not quite touching your teeth but a little distance between. then exhale as fast or slow as you want. Depending on how fast you exhale the more noticeable the rolled r's are. When you get the hang of it you can easily adjust the pressure of the r's. One other is your tongue is going to vibrant when you do roll your r's so don't get worried about that. Hope that helps!

If you speak Russian, you should know that the French r sounds closer to the Russian х than the trilled р. It’s a throaty sound.

It is close, but there are just some barrier that prevents me from doing it naturally. As JessyFan said I just need some practice.

Yeah, practice makes perfect doesn’t it? I also used to have a hard time producing the trilled r but somehow I just managed to do that. Bonne chance !
