I thought "year" could be feminine or masculin??

"An" is masculin, "année" is féminine. Année usually refers to a specific (calendar) year, e.g. "cette année". An to a period lasting a year.

I'm 30 years old = J'ai 30 ans. And in this case, the number of visitors is for any period lasting a year, so "an" is the proper translation.

For the number of visitors in a specific year (for example last year), you'd use "l'année dernière".

Pourquoi par an pas par année?
