sinappi is derived from Swedish senap—of which is derived from Latin sinapi—and of which ultimately is derived from Ancient Greek σίναπι.

Compare with German Senf (“mustard”).

In that case Finnish has been very conservative with keeping this loanword comprehensible to any time-travelling ancient Greeks. It's a similar situation to Finnish's conservation of "kuningas" borrowed straight out of Proto-Germanic, from which we get English "king" and German "König".
