"Minä en ole..." is correct too

I think so, but this alternative wasn't accepted by Duolingo ☹️

So I can't say "En ole Kanadassa mutta Suomessa"?

What's the difference between mutta and vaan?

If you first say what something is NOT and then what it IS .... use vaan . Eg the colour is not red but orange .... use vaan to translate 'but'. Eg the colour is not red but I do not care ... use mutta.
