Children's books in French - Oscar
Thanks to Anthgrl for the link. This is a thread to discuss the book 'Oscar' which is available in both French and English. To find it visit this website:
On the left hand side of the screen search for 'Oscar' in 'french'.
The book is aimed at young children. The site has other books too, which you can filter by age.
That link didn't work for me but I was able to search for Oscar in French and came up with this link: http://www.childrenslibrary.org/icdl/BookReader?bookid=husosca_00970006&twoPage=true&route=text_French_oscar&size=0&fullscreen=false&pnum1=1&lang=French&tlang=French&ilang=English
Sorry about that lrtward. I've tried editing the link, and neither of our links work. I don't understand why it's going wrong. Anyway, this more general link does work, and I'll amend the instructions accordingly! http://www.childrenslibrary.org/icdl/AdvancedSearchCategory?ilang=English
Thanks for that link. I just read "Oscar" in French, without using my dictionary. I decided to act as though I was a child, and try to work out the meanings as I went. I think reading like this might help with the feel of the language instead of transliteration. I didn't understand it all, but enjoyed the story anyway. Thank you!
Excellent HelenSteve - that's what I did too - I thought it was really good practice. I didn't understand all of it, and after reading the book straight through I decided to read it page by page, followed by the English version for each page.
I've finished my first French book! I also read it page by page, French first, followed by English. And then French again. Took some time, but it's interesting to read and try to understand longer sentences and paragraphs.
So .. how this would work? Are we putting a sort of deadline to read the book and then talk ? if we agree in one day?
I don't know Ange1889 - never done this before. I suppose I was thinking that the thread would progress at its own speed, but if you'd like to suggest a day, I'll try and join you that day. Sounds like it might be a good way to do it.
