So "da un pezzo" I take it means "for a bit" in the time sense.

Can you also use "tra un pezzo" to mean something similar? Just trying to understand the prepositions better! Thanks

Hm more than a bit it would be "quite a while"; Treccani says "Con riguardo alla durata, un p[ezzo], un bel p[ezzo], un periodo di tempo che si considera abbastanza (o anche troppo) lungo". So yes, you could say "L'autobus passerĂ  tra un pezzo" (the bus will come in quite a while, i.e. we'll need to wait).
