If you are more comfortable with socks, you can use that. Both are accepted here.

They did used to have the term 'Bobbysoxers' in the US to describe a certain type of teenage girl (I think in the 1950s) - We all know the word is 'socks' but I think we can all workout what 'sox' means...BUT is it really in the clothing section!! - If it is, it shouldn't be. I haven't come across it

A couple of time it has recommended "sox" for me but afterwards it says that the translation isn't accepted and says that i should've used "socks" i think that it's a bug.
