"I have worked all day" is commonly used in the US.

I agree - although they mean slightly different things. If you wanted to emphasize that you worked the WHOLE day - like longer than usual or something - then you'd say you worked the whole day. But "I worked all day" is a bit more neutral, IMO. (FWIW, I wrote "I worked all day" and it was marked wrong but I think that it should be correct!)
