I too think it should be "al hombre" and not "con el" as they are two different things and "to" is "a" not "con". jmho as someone trying to apply the rules as they've been presented so far. Perhaps this is an exception for some reason I don't yet know.

That's a bit misleading. Unless the man isn't paying attention or participating in the conversation.. At least make the english sentence "The woman talks WITH the man" right?

I usually just use "el" but I understand why they would use el hombre.
