Danish and Irish for English speakers are now in beta!
Today you can learn Danish from English and Irish from English. Thanks to all the volunteer contributors that helped create these courses! A huge tak/thanks to the Danish team: bjarkehs, runem and Sofiadcs. And a "go raibh maith agat" to the Irish team: alexinireland, Lancet, dubhais, laura.doherty, and odoinn.
Remember these courses are in beta! Please report any issues that you find. Thanks for helping improve the course for future learners :)
Thanks Luis for this post and for the chance to create our course! We hope everyone enjoys our course and is forgiving of the mistakes and bugs they may find in these early stages! Thanks also to our Incubator mentor, Mukkapazza, who has been so helpful throughout Phase 1! Go raibh maith agaibh!
I don't know you, internet stranger, but I'm really happy for you. Nice work. :-)
A huge thanks to Alex as well, whose enthusiasm got the ball rolling and is still keeping it going, and to mukkapazza, our ever-patient mentor, from Team Irish. Good luck to everyone taking the course, we're here to help you make it all the way! Congratulations to the Danish team too!
Happy happy happy happy happy happy happy!!!! I'm so looking forward to tonight, as I'm going to start Irish!!!!
We are just very happy to have been given the opportunity to provide people with this course! So thank you!
Exactly. This is and has been a privilege. I'm so thankful for being a part of this. :)
Yes thank you and the rest of the Duolingo team for giving us the chance to help out :) Soon, my fiancée will be fluent in Danish and I in Italian. Thank you Duolingo!
Great job everyone! You've become a part of internet history :D
Wow, you have so many flags by your name! That is awesome! It'll be interesting to see more users looking like this as more and more languages get released.
Danish + Irish = Lego Leprechaun!
I haven't started the Danish course yet, but so far Irish is awesome!
Congrats to both these teams. Particularly excited for brushing up on Danish (the mother tongue)! Thank you!
That's perfect, you should apply to be a contributor once you complete the tree. :)
Haha, they really have pins for all language combinations! (nope, not an advert!)
More languages to learn!
Or should I say... more flags to add to my name. (¬‿¬)
Superb job Danish and Irish teams!
Thanks for giving us new languages to learn!
Thanks Esmee! Good luck with your courses and the rest of the beta phase :) Could this be the start of Itch 2.0? Who knows? But for now...I am tired....
That is very true about the pins! I typed in two random countries, and...
I wouldn't have thought the many people would be looking all over the internet for Niger-Laos crossed pins, but there you go!
What the... they DO really have pins for everything, I mean, Venezuela and Ireland? lol
If you think that's strange...
Equatorial Guinea - Puerto Rico ?
Slovenia - Bahrain ?
Liechtenstein - Barbados ?
Oh my gosh, this site is the best. Anyone want Fiji and The-Isle-of-Man?
Oh dear, you're putting me under pressure here...
Singapore - Mauritius
Malta - Tanzania
Korea Republic - Macedonia
HAHAHAHA, THAT ONE ACTUALLY MADE ME LAUGH OUT LOUD. That site is the best one lol
Listening to a chorus of a song going, "I'll never land", and scrolled to this GIF. This is hilarious.
Now I can finally say that: . Thank you very very much, Team Irish and Team Danish, and also thank you team Dutch and whoever made the German, Spanish and French courses. :)
It's my birthday in 10 minutes, so I'll consider this an awesome birthday present from Duolingo :D Thanks for the teams hard work in getting it out, and I look forward to learning them both!
WHY DO YOU DO THIS TO ME
I'm so bad at learning two languages at the same time, and now I feel that I should learn the two :(
Yaay. Congrats guys ^^
I thought your course would come out at the same time. I guess they don't want to go too many days without interesting events in the incubator.
Our course is not completely finished. There's a skill that we haven't done because we thought it was too hard to teach as it was. Instead of one hard skill, we are trying to divide it into three easy ones, but we need to ask Duo staff to see if it's possible to do that.
You guys have been too passive with the community. You should add a incubator update on your progress like other contributors do. Any clues as to what the skill name is?
That makes a lot of sense, it's probably one of the hardest skills in the tree.
Assolutamente good idea. It should be split in the English-Italian course too... The most difficult and most confusing skill ever created on Duolingo (and 0% hints¬es!)...
Wait, is this a glitch or is there a TURKISH, RUSSIAN AND ROMANIAN FLAG ON YOUR COMMENT?!
Best. Website. Ever.
That is all. :)
(Oh, except, could we please have Finnish soon?)
I just had to tell my mother "Is bean mé!". So proud!
She's Irish but has forgotten the language, and I only knew a couple of words until now :D
Dancing as a leprechaun and singing something Danishlike Great! Congratulations!
Hooray! I looked and there were 0 learners in Danish, I will be the first!
AWESOME!!! The courses look great from what I've seen so far! Massive thanks to Duolingo and all involved!
Am I late to the party? It must have released while I was sleeping or something!
Anyway, congratulations to the Danish and Irish teams on the course releases! :)
EDIT: OK, I think I'm not too late. :)
Awesome, but I don't think I'll be able to try these courses for a while. I really want to focus on really knowing the ones I've already learned. But still, you guys did a great job and I'm so thankful for the chance that I could learn them in the future! Thank you!
As an Irish person living in Denmark, tusind tak agus go raibh mile maith agaibh!
So excited! I added them both and am still on level one on both. Danish is a bit easier for me, but even it's a struggle. Maybe it's just late afternoon (unrepentant morning person) but I have new found respect for those who struggle with languages here.
Awesome! You guys really need to post about this stuff on your Twitter and Facebook account though. I personally don't use those sites, but a lot of people do and it would help to inform a lot more people. You guys haven't posted about any of the new languages for English speakers. That includes Dutch and now Irish and Danish.
Woohoo!!! This is excellent, amazing, incredible..... !!! This is how I'm feeling right now
Congratulations to you, the Irish and Danish team! Your hard work and effort was incredible. I'm just loving your courses! :D
Nicely done. I was waiting for a comment by an official source. P.S. I think some people's flairs will become heavily cluttered very soon. Are there any plans to redesign the flair system, or will it only show the top 10 or so languages being learnt?
P.S. I think it would be more interesting if future launches included an image of the course. Perhaps something like the courses page picture, or a landmark in the respective countries. :)
Thanks to all contributors! I think I will try to learn Danish. Any experiences from Germans who learn(ed) Danish?
This is awesome! Now we just need the apps to support them, don't know why, but I learn so much faster on my phone. :)
Probably because it is easier. A lot of questions simply have you rearrange words instead of making you remember and type them out yourself like you have to do on the web version.
I made myself a resolution to finish every tree in every language that Duo offers for my own satisfaction, and I have to say, when you guys keep moving the goalposts like that it makes it challenging. I'm not really sure how to stop at this point though, so I may as well keep going. Never know when I might need to ask for a Kamelåså.
Same here :D I hope I have just enough time to focus on these two before the likes of Hungarian appears! :-p
I can't describe how happy am I right now! Thank you so much for giving us the great opportunity to learn those beautiful languages! ^_^
Thank you so much to each of these Incubator teams! Your work is truly important. I've already taken a look at Irish, and I must say, it's a fascinating language. Danish was a LOT easier for me, knowing English and knowing the basics of German and Dutch. Good luck to both teams throughout Phase 2!
Plus, I'll make a special mention in the next Saturdays with Hdn. :)
And on that day, everyone turned to look at Team Hungarian and Team Swedish... lol Excited for both courses! I've tried both out a bit and plan to continue. Both are a lot more difficult than any of the other courses, but I know from experience it gets easier. Good job to both teams!
No, but perhaps in the next update, since there are not any upcoming (very soon) courses.
Good luck to anyone who will learn Irish. It's so positive that Duolingo will allow It to spread, even outside the borders. And if you complete the tree in the future. All my respect :P
Awesome!!! Thank you so much for putting in the work (play, I hope?) to make these courses!
Good job and thanks to the contributors! Now let's get Swedish into beta, I'm so excited to learn it on Duolingo!
WOOOOOO! WOOOOOOOOOOOO! \o/ Irish, Irish, Irish! runs off to sign up for Irish
Hooray! I would start Danish right now if I hadn't just started German and Portuguese at school. In a few months I'd like to try it, once I have a better grasp on German. Thanks to all the contributors who made these courses possible!
HOORAY! I can't wait to start the courses! ヽ(＾∇＾)ﾉ Massive thanks to both teams!
THANKS A LOT, I've been waiting for Danish to come, but boy, Danish and Irish sure are going to be a challenge to learn...So maybe start working on Japanese now :DDDD, this appetite for languages is Insatiable...
Thank you, Team Irish and Team Danish! Good job!
As soon as I finish my French tree, I will start Danish course!
Thanks to all the contributors who made the Danish and Irish courses! You guys didn't have to contribute... but you did!(:
congratulations the team and staff, but why danish flag looks like that of french in people's profile?
Yes!!!! Thank you very much for such an effort! I already started! Maybe now you can have some time to enjoy the rest of the summer., because you deserve it indeed.
What about other courses? Many volunteers are eager to contribute but these new languages don't even appear in the incubator. Could we see them soon? I applied for English/Spanish to Catalan :)
Already level 5 in Irish! ...can't...stop...duoing... ...language...addiction..seizing control.... O.o Go raibh maith agat! ;)
A big hearty congratulations to all the hard-workers of the Danish and Irish teams. I would wish the Irish team a great thank you, but I don't speak Irish, which is why I am so pleased about this new frontier for duo.
