Completed my German Tree

I finished my German tree today. It took me 240 days. A few things that I found helpful:

  • I used a Schaum's outline German grammar text to better understand the grammar rules while going through the lessons. Various people have pointed out online sites that are also good for understanding grammar.
  • After duoLingo took away vocabulary about one third of my way through the lessons, I used memrise to study and learn the vocabulary associated with the duoLingo lessons.

I hope the vocabulary is brought back by duoLingo soon. I found it much more difficult without it.

Gute Arbeit! Ich habe viele nutzliche Quellen gefunden und würde die posten, wenn ich mein Fähigkeit-Baum beende. Wie findest du nun deine Fähigkeit? Welche anderen Werkzeuge benutzst du? Du habe gut gemacht!

Gut, ich habe nur zwei Worten gesucht, Quellen und Fähigkeit, und ich verstehe alles.

Not as hard as many people think. You only have to accept things as they are, because German grammar is different to English grammar, and don't try to translate literally. For example, in English people "are" hungry, whereas in German people "have" hunger (in fact, that's similar to what we say in Spanish, we say that we "have" hunger, that is, "nosotros tenemos hambre"). And there's the fact that objects have gender, either masculine, feminine or neutral, and when referring to people they not always have the same gender as the person they represent. As this site is free, you can just start with german and eventually you will be speaking German.

Ich wünsche dir viel Erfolg! (I wish you a lot of success!)

I have a grammar book that I bought last year, altough it's in Spanish, and it cost me about 10 euros. I prefer consulting a paper book, because I don't depend on the computer for that. Anyway, you can have a look at these places:

http://www.learn-german-language-online.com/german-grammar.html http://www.germanlanguageguide.com/german/grammar/

Both are in English.

Now is the time to write everything in German. Try it, there are many helping hands. (Nun ist es an der Zeit, alles in Deutsch zu schreiben. Versuche es, es gibt viele helfende Hände.)

August 30, 2014

https://www.duolingo.com/profile/CarlosJFort

Ja, ich werde versuchen, auf Deutsch zu schreiben (Es ist "auf Deutsch" oder "in Deutsch"?).

August 30, 2014

https://www.duolingo.com/profile/bin_weg

Beides ist grundsätzlich möglich und verwendbar. Wobei "auf" etwas flüssiger und deutscher klingt in diesem Satz. / Both are basically possible and useful. Where "auf" more fluid and German sounds in this sentence, "in" wird in Sätzen wie / "in" is in sentences like "In Deutsch schreibe ich morgen eine Klassenarbeit. / "In German I write tomorrow a classwork." ("Diese schreibe ich auf deutsch" / " This I write in German ")

August 30, 2014

https://www.duolingo.com/profile/KM1403

Ich würde "auf Deutsch" sagen! Obwohl, weiß ich nicht ob "in Deutsch" auch richtig ist!

August 30, 2014

https://www.duolingo.com/profile/bin_weg

Ja beides, siehe oben. / Yes both, see above.

August 30, 2014

"...ich weiß nicht..." Ist richtig in diesem Satz. / Is correct in this sentence.
