would "aftensmad" literally translate into something along the lines of "(the) late food/meal"? trying to break things down to remember better and i don't want to cement something incorrect lol

It would literally translate to evening food. Aften = evening, mad = food. The s is a "gluing" or "tying" letter, I cannot remember what it is called.

I think the 's' can be thought of as the possessive 's' in English. I think of aftensmad as aften's mad, or evening's meal.
