I would like to talk to you!
Hi! Im' from Argentina, Buenos Aires and I'm trying to improve my English, please talk with me via Skype. I can help you with your Spanish! =D
Hi, julisofi71! Duolingo asks that we not share our Skype names. Can you remove your name (editar), please? Thank you! :)
I know it's a rule that you, as a moderator, feel compelled to enforce, but I think it's a misinterpretation of the guidelines (it makes more sense as a recommendation than an outright prohibition). Even if it is an actual rule, I think we can all agree that this is a stupid and inconsistent restriction. They want us to share our FB or Twitter information, but anything else is prohibited. The inconsistency makes little sense.
As a mod, perhaps you should pester Kristine or one of the other Duopeeps to get an official clarification on this.
I suspect it's a case of well-intentioned, but overzealous mods missing the mark in the absence of actual direction from Duo (I'm not talking about Alexis here, this has been going on for longer than she's been a mod). I've sent a message to kristinemc asking for clarification. I'll pester her so that Alexis doesn't have to, and hopefully we can get to the bottom of it.
I've had thoughts about this as well, pinkodoug. It does say in the guidelines don't share your Skype name (always wondered why it was specific), but, I will not say anything at this time. I wouldn't start a new job and then begin questioning their methods immediately, so I'll wait. Thanks for your input, though. I'm always noting what you say.
I'm not asking you challenge their position, but simply to ask for a clarification. There's a big difference between the two.
Sorry for wording it incorrectly, as that's not what I aimed to say. The allowance of certain accounts and not others is conflicting. As it pertains to what is stated in the guidelines, I need no clarification on that. But, for Twitter and Facebook, it seems to be tied more to social media, and spreading word about Duolingo. Next week, I will send out an email.
I've already sent a message to kristinemc asking for a clarification, so hopefully we'll have it sorted soon. I know that the guidelines document literally states "don't share" but it does so in the context of "think before you share" and "don't [exchange] any private information that can be misused" those open the door to a broader interpretation, IMO, and turn this paragraph into a bit of good, common sense advice - poster beware - rather than a firm prohibition.
Given the fact that, as Zach points out, there's a sticky thread in the Danish forum for facilitating skype and google hangout connections, I suspect that this will need to be officially answered sooner rather than later.
Thanks for letting me know. If you don't receive a reply, let me know on my stream. I can contact her on your behalf (and I do not mean support).
My Skype name is pretty much public information, regardless of what Duolingo says, or whether it's mentioned in this little corner of the internet.
Leave your skype account or skype name please! I would like to practice my English!
