You must have the English (Ireland) keyboard layout for this to work though.

I press alt gr + 9 (where the fáda is) + whatever letter I want. Works for á é í ó ú... but also ć ŕ ź ń ś ĺ, if you're feeling adventurous.

In OS X, I use alt+e followed by the vowel.

For some other keyboard layouts that don't support that, you may find that AltGr + ' followed by the vowel does the trick.
