Funny - I know what a "Geldbeutel" is, but I've never heard the word. It is definitely outdated. Instead, we use "Portemonnaie". A "Brieftasche" is something, where you hardly keep money but rather documents like credit cards, driving license, identity card etc.
Colloquially it's still used, but it's meant in a figurative way. In my family it's still common, but it's like a little joke. It's an anachronism.
