A beautiful language

Danish has a pleasant grammar, it has nice words for things, and I've discovered that it sounds very pretty when sung.

I thought I would just take a peek and drop it, but there is so much humor and instruction in the lessons, the tips and the discussion, and the language itself is so fascinating, I think I'll just keep going for a while.

Well that's the first time I've heard THAT! :D

Glad you like the course, and that you find the tips/lessons motivating :)

Really? I was trying to be conservative.

My comment about how sweet it sounds when sung came from listening to some Disney songs that had been translated into Danish.

About the grammar, I particularly like the postfix articles, the simple genitive and the handy verbs.

The side benefit of getting a head start on other Scandanavian languages is also a big plus.

(I was going to link straight to the YouTube video, but I think everybody needs to see this video, so I made a separate post.)

Haha, no no, I'm not that arrogant. I just usually hear from people that Danish sounds about as beautiful as a person choking on something :P

I have lived in Denmark for just over two years now. At first I agreed with most folks, who say it is like "talking with a potato in your mouth." Now as I approach fluency, I start to see that it can be slightly pretty, but the real benefit is that the language lends itself well to a very sarcastic humour.

I second everything you say. I listened to a little of a Danish song, and it gave me chills the entire time. It's beautiful.

I. Love. Danish. I tried Irish, and it's just too hard. But Danish? I have no interest whatsoever in visiting Ireland. Denmark, though, does spark an interest.

it can be beautiful at times:

Inger Christensen is probably one of the poets who made it the most beautiful. Listen to some of her readings and get a good feeling for the sounds and melody in Danish.

I agree that the language sounds beautiful and it is fun to learn. :) It makes me smile to speak it (the small amount I have learned), if that makes any sense.
