keeping the owl happy

I try to use DL every day, but some days I can't stay for long due to life getting in the way. However, on those days, I do a practice exercise that appears in colour on my tree, and keep at it until the fanfare tells me I have strengthened that skill.

HOWEVER, twice now I have lost my streak and get a "keep the owl happy" notice. Not fair! Anyone else have this problem?
