German for fun and tat

I've been looking around for a new replacement doohicky that is now out of production. A couple of weeks on Ebay turned up plenty of similar items, but not the exact part I was looking for.

My GF, getting quite fed up with the time I was wasting on this said, "You are learning German. Can't you use German Ebay in case they have it?"

Well they did, but the item was listed as only shipping to Germany. I thought I'd try it out anyway and messaged him in German to see if he would ship to the UK and how much it would cost. A little back and forth (and a relist of the item to include the new delivery options) and I got it!

This stands as the most useful application of my German to date. I'm going to have to keep remembering that I should explore the German language options whenever I'm trying to solve problems.

That's great! You can also try switching languages on Wikipedia, in game forums and maybe use a German search term on google if you can't find what you are looking for in English.
