Well, if you're not a native English, you would for obvious reasons. For example if you don't have a word in your native language that is similar to "personality".

I would say not. You could have a mild personality and still have a strong character. Character speaks to moral attributes, whereas personality is more about social attributes..a more superficial assessment.
