In the faster recording, "a água" sounds like "a hagua" (where the ´h´ is aspirated). Can a native speaker confirm that this is what happens in everyday speech? It would make sense, but I´d like to know for sure.

Because we don't separate the two words quite clearly, it sounds like "aágua", not "a-água". But there's no clear H in there. The robot is wrong.
