Very excited to be learning here
I am not sure that this will lead to a discussion but I just wanted to share with others also learning.
I studied a number of languages in University, but could not get past the anxiety in speaking them "perfectly".
I started studying with Duo and I can practice with native speakers without feeling embarrassed because of the speed of the practice vocals here! I love how the site combines structure with vocab in alternating levels so you can build competency. I am very happy and excited to see how learning in this method progresses.
I WILL learn to speak other languages! Huzzah!
I'm new here too - at the moment I'm going through the basics to get a refresher and used to their system. I've already learned two new words, though I hope that as I get near the more advanced sections it'll be more challenging.
I only knew how to count to 10 in Spanish before last week, so I am definitely learning a lot of new vocab. I hope it picks up for you!
i new very little from a small group that i was in for about two months and only new how to count up to 14
Many people, or everyone is concerned or worried about sounding uneducated or dumb. That's natural if you're an adult. Fortunately children don't have that problem and no one will judge them. They're fearless.
I think, believe that many native speakers will forgive you if you mess up or say something embarrassing. They feel the same way when they try to speak English. Some times we're not forgiving or understanding. Modern Family star Sofia Vergara uses that to her advantage. She's fearless.
Don't worry about being perfect but keep trying and good luck.
Quick Fun Story:: I once made the mistake of proudly ordering dos huevos instead of simply saying en ingles "2 eggs." When the guys behind the counter started laughing, I slowly realized there's joke some where in there. Don't order dos huevos . . . it's too sexual.
Hola, I cannot recommend this site highly enough! I have been and am now once again a language learner. I am also an ESL teacher. Undoubtedly, my previous language learning supports me here to make it even easier, so I feel like I'm just breezing through it :) However, regardless, a site could not be more language-learner-friendly than Duolingo!
