offen vs geöffnet

which one is the correct one "die Geschäfte sind offen" or "die Geschäfte sind geöffnet". is there any contrast between these two sentences? if so what is the difference between "offen" and "geöffnet" or do these two words just have the same meaning?

Offen is an adjective, and öffnen (what geöffnet comes from) is a verb, but yes, in this context, they'd mean the same thing. Just two ways of saying it.

Hmmm, which is the opposite of the English in my neck of the woods; it sounds more natural to say "the shops are open" rather than "the shops have opened", unless it happened just in that moment.

At least in my neck of the woods, it sounds more natural to say "die Geschäfte haben geöffnet".
