Emoticons/Gifts for Lingots?

Hey fellow learners,

How do you use your Lingots? I think Heart Refillment and Double Practice and so on are a bit boring. How about buying and sending emoticons and gifts to other Duolingo users? If I received an emoticon I'd get the notification "Hey, JohnDoe compliments you on your success" or if I received a gift I'd get a notification saying "Hey, AliBaba007 just gave you a frog with a note: 'Bon appétit ;)'" or something like that. That would promote the interaction of the Duolingo users and the users' profiles would look way more interesting. What do you think? :)

Best regards, Willi

I think that is a fantastic idea.

I think it would be great to receive a lingot-purchased "attaboy", and fun to buy them for folks who leave helpful comments. Right now I just give them a lingot (or a few) but this would add variety.

I'm ready to be in minority here as I think it would be a little bit distracting. What I personally like almost the most about duolingo is its cleanness, it has only those tools which help you to learn languages and appreciate help of others. The proposed feature will add something completely useless in terms of language studying. To my mind if you want to encourage someone just find some proper words and that's it.

But I can see why you think the store needs something new to it. And I'd like to propose to think how to connect it to language studying. Your post inspired to think on this and I decided to propose something new for the store, not so sure if it's a good idea. I would like to know what you think.
