Visiting Ecuador soon
I am visiting Ecuador in January or February 2015. I imagine that there are some variations to how they speak there. But if anyone has any tips let me know.
Following this thread because I'm curious too! We're planning a trip in the winter of 2016.
Some links I found while googling "Ecuador dialect": http://www.veintemundos.com/en/spanish/ecuador/ http://www.omniglot.com/language/articles/latin_american_spanish.htm http://wanderingtrader.com/travel-blog/ecuador/learning-how-to-speak-ecuadorian-spanish-spanish-expressions-with-video/ There are also some pdfs of academic papers that might be interesting to linguist geeks.
Every region has their own linguistic differences, though.
This is an extreme example, but Argentina uses a form of vosotros while the rest of Latin America does not. My Spanish teacher has pointed out phrases (all of which escape me at the moment) that are specific to Mexico or Puerto Rico, or that indicate class differences in some countries but not in others. I think the poster is looking for words and phrases that might not be universal, such as these.
My friends in Quito tell me they use the vos form in that region at least so you may want to brush up on that. You don't have to use it yourself just be able to recognize it and what is being said.
