Flashcard comments, questions
I love the flashcard feature, but I have a few questions and comments.
--Why don't the flashcards include the gender for the nouns?
--When I do the flashcards, the newer vocabulary words do not seem to be included.
--I would love if the flashcards allowed Spanish to English practice (right now it shows the words in Spanish and you flip to see the English word).
Criticisms aside, I really appreciate the Duolingo program and community!
With regards to the second point, the reason for this is the fact that the flashcards tool selects words based largely on their current strength rating. Because of the way Duolingo handles word strength and decay rates, a word that you just learned in a lesson will typically have a higher strength value than many of your older words. The strength of newly learned words will generally decay faster than words you've known for longer and have (successfully) practiced many times.
It's worth noting that there appears to be a bug with flashcards that affects at least some users. Using flashcards on well-known words with very slow decay rates actually resets the decay rate to the fastest possible rate. The result is that some words which may have taken months to decay to half strength prior to using flashcards will now decay to 1 bar in a day after using the flashcards tool. Use it at your own risk.
This is great feedback! Very clear and concise with suggestions. :D Have a lingot!
