Suffixes?

I was going through the lessons, and came across this question that I couldn't find an answer to.

So "the vegetarians" translates to "vegetarerne"

This is only one example, but why is it does it end with -erne rather than -ene?

Thanks!

The plural of vegetar is vegetarer and the plural definite (usually) takes the same ending as the word and adds "-ne" (exceptions are words where the plural is the same as the sungular [use -ene and when they end in s). So vegetaren's plural is vegetarerne
