Finished with my lessons, what to do next?
I'm done with my Spanish lessons but it seems I am nowhere near fluency. I've been watching movies and listening to songs in Spanish but I am still having a hard time. Any tips?
Conversation. Reading books in Spanish starting with the lowest level and slowly working up. Conversation. More movies and books. Conversation. Radio. Conversation. Writing a paragraph or two a day in a notebook and reading it aloud. Conversation. Setting your phone/tablet/computer to Spanish. Conversation. Google translate everything and then practice it. Conversation. Speak to yourself, pets, friends and monolingual family members in Spanish. Conversation.
Really, I think, best way to stretch capacity is to listen (with intention to understand) and best way to get usability is to use what you have. Who cares if you make errors. That is not embarrassing but bold and brave and most people love you for it and will help.
I am practicing speaking sentences about what is happening with myself or non-Spanish speaking companions. Anything to get the thoughts into words and the words coming out of my mouth. Listening and speaking (not just to drills).
And, did I mention, conversation? Listening and speaking is where it is at. Make up your mind not to quit.
You can do this! Congrats on your accomplishments so far. Consider it a great platform to build from.
Read! Books, articles, instructions, everything. The more you read, the more familiar you'll become with the vocabulary and the faster you'll start to memorize words and be able to recognize them when you hear them and use them
