The number that you're pointing to in your first screenshot is actually the score - not the number of comments. As you can see in the second screenshot, the same 0 is displayed next to the upvote/downvote buttons at the top, and underneath that it reads "5 Comments".

I still can't believe I made such a mistake, after being active user for more than half a year. Thanks for pointing it out.
