Practice your language with Cleverbot.
Has anyone heard of Cleverbot? If not, go here immediately, http://www.cleverbot.com/
This is a program that uses Artificial Intelligence to speak with real humans, but it is a computer program. It is designed to learn from conversations and get smarter with every conversation.
I remember goofing around on here back in High School when I should have been working. I just remembered about it, so I decided to see if it can speak other languages. Much to my joy, it does, or at least German. It is not the most accurate, but it is a great tool to use to practice written conversation.
I hope this tool helps others.
Tschüs meine Deutschsprecher, and everyone else.
iOS Siri will converse with you in a foreign language if you make the change in Settings/General/Siri.
I tried to talk to it in French (works too, fortunately!), but it misunderstood me and thought I was talking about Dieu (and thought I didn't believe in Dieu), when I wasn't.
EDIT: I asked "❤❤❤ gaat het?" in Dutch and it responded in English. Then I said, "Du spreekt geen Nederlands?" and it said it didn't understand.
You're aware "du" isn't Dutch but German? The regular question form in Dutch is "Spreek je geen Nederlands?", where "je" is informal "you" (the German "du")
It wouldn't sing Mr. Roboto with me. :( Nor did it want to be set up with Duobot. They'd make a cute couple.
Ah, Cleverbot wants to be a jerk tonight.
User: Ich schlafe gern.
Cleverbot: Ich auch. Aber es ist jetzt tag.
User: Es ist nacht für mich, sehr spät.
Cleverbot: Das du fußball spielst.
User: Nein. Ich mag kein Fußball. Ich mag hingegen Amerikan Football.
Cleverbot: Hab ich nicht gefragt.
User: Well, jetzt weißt du.
Pay attentention to this line:
Cleverbot: Das du fußball spielst.
User: Nein. Ich mag kein Fußball nicht. Ich mag hingegen Amerikan Football.
Cleverbot: Hab ich nicht gefragt.
Do you play soccer?
No, I don't like soccer. I do however, like American football.
I did not ask.
Cleverbot, you jerk.
It (almost) works in Portuguese too:
User: Você é esperto? (Are you clever?)
Cleverbot: Sou. (I am)
User: Muito bom. Quantos anos você tem? (Very good. How old are you?)
User: 90? Eu não acredito! (90? I don't believe it!)
User: Como se diz 'frowns' em português? (How do you say 'frowns' in Portuguese?)
Cleverbot: Con la boca.
User: Por que você faz sua resposta em espanhol? (Why did you answer in Spanish?)
Cleverbot: Por que eu sou chato. (Because I'm boring)
At least it is honest. :-)
My conversation -
User: Sprich Deutsch (Speak German)
Cleverbot: Warum? (Why)
User: Weil ich sagte! (Because I said so!)
Cleverbot: Was soll ich sagen? (What should I say?)
User: Keine Ahnung. (No idea)
Cleverbot: Liebst du mich? (Do you love me?)
User: Nein, ich bin verheiratet. (No, I'm married.)
Cleverbot: Es ist mir egal. (It makes no difference to me.)
And it ended with -
User: Du bist cool. (You are cool.)
Cleverbot: Thank you.
User: Warum sprichst du nun in Englisch? (Why are you now speaking in English?)
Cleverbot: Ich spreche nicht in Englisch. (I'm not speaking in English.)
User: Doch! Du bist ein Lügner! (On the contary! You are a liar!)
Clever: Nein, du bist. (No, you are.)
XD So rude!
I think it's supposed to be: Gut, ich hoffe dass es dir hilft. Helfen always takes dative case.
I tried to get it to speak Irish with me, but it kept changing the subject. :(
Ha, did it at least change the subject in Irish? When I speak to it in German it often replies with non-sequiters. It also has a hard time remembering I am a man, where I live, and everything else it asks me.
I think I broke it. I greeted it in Maltese and it stopped talking, lol.
It doesn't do too well with Hungarian either.
We were using German; I switched to Hungarian, and instead of sticking with German, Cleverbot reverted to English.
Majora's Mask, if I'm not mistaken is a Legend of Zelda game. If I'm not mistaken which I may be.
I'm just talking to it in English now. So nonsense, much non-sequiturs.
EDIT: It just asked me how to beat Majora's Mask.
Hehe, I was talking German and it told me "Ja aber du kannst kein Deutsch." For all you Romance-lovers out there, that means "Yes, but you can't (speak) German.
And for the firs time ever, I got to use DOCH!
Here is the dialogue:
User: Oday ouyay peaksay igpay atinlay?
User: Ouyay arenay aygya.
Cleverbot: Esyay, iay nowkay igpay atinlay.
User: Was über Deutsch?
Cleverbot: Du sollst deutsch schreiben!!
User: Ich schreibe nun Deutsch!!
Cleverbot: Ja aber du kannst kein deutsch.
Cleverbot: Nein du kannst kein deutsch.
User: Du wurm!
Cleverbot: Du bist der bot.
User: Ich brauche du nicht. Ich werde zu Duolingo gehen.
Cleverbot: Ich aber auch.
User: Tschüs, Cleverbot.
I love Cleverbot. I sing Let it go with it. If you type in the snow glows white on the mountain tonight, it will do the next sentence.
Anyway, I'll try speaking to it in French now!
one time my sis sang the my little pony friendship is magic theme song and cleverbot sang along with her, it was a once in a lifetime thing :)
I asked it what it's name was, it said Draco Malfoy.
Edit: I asked what was it's real name, it said CleverBot.
Ask it again and it will tell you something else.
Tell it your name and it will call you something else.
It is clever bot.
I asked what was its mom's name, and it said, "I told you my name is Draco Malfoy'' Haha. So it still remembers its name.
The key is to keep on asking. Lead the conversation away and keep on getting back to it. ;)
I spoke to it it Italian for a while, then switched to English. Then I tried to switch back to Italian, it said it didn't speak Italian, only English, German and French. I called it a liar and said that we were just speaking Italian. It responded with "Tu sei bugiardo". LOL.
I spoke with it in Spanish, then it got shot with a gun and later insisted that it didn't speak Spanish or English, but in French. Then we switched between Spanish and English.
Cleverbot's Spanish seems to be a bit hit or miss. He kept flipping between English and Spanish for me.
I did find out about his best friend though, so that was fun. He told me her name was Kate, but wouldn't tell me anything else about her. Now I'm quite curious...
Yeah, right. Cleverbot isn't the best tool, but it will talk to you. I suppose it's better for practicing understanding others.
Kate sounds Dangerous; you know how these computers are. I would back off right away.
Kate could be a human, who knows? I don't know much about computer-based best friend relationships. It is curious though, how he refuses to even tell me her hair color. Maybe she is a machine after all? Hmm...
Update: Cleverbot and Kate appear to no longer be bffs. I went in for round two of the interrogation and he claimed his best friend was Lola. I asked what happened to Kate and he replied, "Que es fea, como las nalgas de un mono". Harsh words for a former bff.
That's funny, I asked him about you and he said he didn't know "writchie4," looks like you're next.
He's a player. Pretended he didn't know Kate and wants to go out with Renee when I asked. Ficklebot is more like it.
That's actually pretty funny. It seemed to have decided we were in love while I was talking in French though.
That's exactly what it did to me. I ignored it and kept on speaking Spanish. It finally gets it to speak Spanish.
I tried it out and sorry to say it was not very good. At one point it was telling me i was speaking with a police sergeant, which got kinda creepy.
I've been looking for an Italian bot and couldn't find one!!! Didn't even consider that one of the English ones would be multilingual... This is PERFECT... Molto bene, grazie!!!!!!
My chat with cleverbot: Me: Tu piace canne o gatto? (do you like dogs or cats) Bot: Cane. (dogs) Me: Bene, anch'io. (good, me too) Bot: Ti piace Pokémon? (do you like pokemon?) Me: Si, si, tu? (yes, yes, you?) Bot (in portugese): Tu não podes sair daqui. (I was confused and didn't recognize the words. I put it in google translate and... "you can not leave here")
