Hello! What's your favorite genre? (The plural of "canción" is "canciones") :0)

Oh! De verdad? Pues sí, sí la recomendaría...Ahora que lo pienso, sus canciones son pausadas y son más fáciles de seguir que de otras/os cantantes.

It really depends on what kind of music you're looking for. Listening to genres that you hate isn't going to help you learn, no matter how "simple" they are :)

"Me gustas tu", by Manu Chao, is often recommended for beginners. It's pretty slow and easy to follow. I wouldn't go as far as "good", but apparently some people like it. :P https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mzgjiPBCsss

Personally, I like Jarabe De Palo's "Bonito". It's faster than "Me gustas tu", but it's closer to my normal listening tastes. Also, guaranteed to teach you at least one word. They've got another song called "La flaca" that I like a lot too. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xxhET61yB1A

I saw a song called "Me voy", by Julieta Venegas, in a similar thread on another site. It's pretty clearly spoken, and more along the lines of the Shakira song you posted, stylistically. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y8rBC6GCUjg

You deserve a Lingot! Thanks for the YouTube Links!

I can't believe I like De Palo's Bonito. I thought it was kind of cheesy but I didn't stop listening to it. I was able to discern his España-ish lilt.

Julieta Venegas's "Me Voy" is a good simple song. I guess I would characterize it as pop. It deserved two listens. I'll try to translate it at a later date, then compare mine to translations from posted online.

Just to reiterate . . . genre, genre, género.

Try the classic Besame Mucho, which has been sung in many styles and covered by many recording artists. It has very simple lyrics.

1968 Willie Colon (featuring Hector Lavoe) Que Lio is also simple and very slow compared to some of their other songs. The song was recently covered by Marc Anthony. From that same album (Hustler) there's a nice little ode to their favorite Cuban city Havana

Despite being known as a raunchy reggaeton act earlier in their careers, the musically diverse Calle 13 has some really cool light songs like La Vuelve al Mundo and their recent Ojos Color Sol (the video is cool).

Sorry, I'm too lazy to post YouTube :-) links but you will definitely find any of the aforementioned songs on YouTube or elsewhere. Last suggestion because I really love her work is Marta Gomez. She has a really smooth, beautiful rendition of Cielito Lindo. This song has it's own Wikipedia page http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cielito_Lindo . . . If you listen to other versions of this song from the 1800s, you will appreciate Gomez's sultry interpretation.

If you like cheesy pop Abba rerecorded a whole bunch of their songs in Spanish. There's a collection similar to Gold out there, called as you would expect "Oro". Muchas canciones acerca de emociones y la corazon :-)

If you want something a bit more cool go for any Ibiza style sundowner collection. Always a lot of Spanish language songs on those, and of course there's the artists that record in both Spanish and English anyway, such as Enrique Iglesias, Ricky Martin, etc.

For a laugh try and find a Spanish version of a Spice Girls song. Let's just say that their attempts at the language would have been much better if they'd had Duolingo back then :D
