Duolingo is the most popular way to learn languages in the world. Best of all, it's 100% free!

Maybe a Duolingo Express?

Ok. Let's say I'm headed off to... say ... Italy for a... school thing. I'm only going to be there for a couple of weeks/months/not a long time, but I don't want to not know how to communicate. I could try and rush through the Duolingo Italian portion and be a nervous wreck before the trip. All and only to have the biggest brain block in human history when push comes to shove. OR I could take the Duolingo express tree/course (hint, hint) and learn what I need to know to catch a cab, buy things, get a bite to eat, check into my hotel, get emergency services, have basic conversations, ect., ect. This would provide the learner with the basic grasps of the language that one would need to essentially survive in an environment where English is abhorred and/or stranger.

You'll be happy to hear that we're adding common phrases to the tree soon! Some people may already be seeing them :)
