I said "het is van mij kind." So when you use van mij it is after what is being possessed?

Yes van mij/van jou/van haar/van Vincent/etc. comes after the thing that is possessed by mij/jou/haar/Vincent/etc.

  • Het is van mij, kind = It is mine, child.
  • Het is mijn kind = It is my child.
