Mi cabello era tan largo como el pelo de la cola del caballo.

(full disclosure is I had to look up the difference between cabello and pelo)

Try these trabalenguas (tongue-twisters):

Tres tristes tigres tragan trigo en el trigal (especially hard for non-native speakers!)

Cuando cuentes cuentos
cuenta cuántos cuentos cuentas,
porque si no cuentas cuántos cuentos cuentas,
nunca sabrás cuántos cuentos has contado tú

That's a good one! A small correction, though: It should be "[le] doy al caballo". You can omit the "le" for literary reasons, but you need the "al" (a + el).

https://www.duolingo.com/Ricaloca

Thanks for pointing that out! Now that you have, I see where I went wrong. I think it makes the tongue twister even harder with the "al".

Animals don't have "cabello," they have "pelo." In Spain, "pelo" is actually used for both people and animals.

Yep, from what i've read:

  • cabello is specifically just head hair

  • pelo is any kind of hair; human, animal fur etc.(hair in general)

  • vello is like body hair? ... ( haven't heard this used much yet).

Cabello in humans is the formal way to call the hair on the head, and the informal way is "pelo". (Someone may come and give you a different opinion, but that's my point of view according to my knowledge)

Spanish doesn't show possesive with ('s), so I'm not sure if you meant that you have more than one horse or your horse's hair...

Also, It's been stated in the comments above a few times, but "Cabello" is used for the head hair of people. "Pelo" is hair in general ( animals and humans can have pelo) and more specifically, as i was told, Crin (it's a feminine noun) is a horses mane.

Anyway, I'm not sure if you meant: My horse's hair is white-El pelo de mi caballo es blanco, My horses have white hair- Mis caballos tienen el pelo blanco. Either way, these don't quite use the two words.

I hope I was able to help!
