I'm devastated. :( My streak got erased. It was fine on saturday & I had streak freeze! It was 204!
edit 10 Oct 2014. My streak is back. Thank you very much duolingo and those who helped me in the comments.
FOR EVERYONE who has the same problem. DO NOT FORGET TO REPORT IT WITH THE RELEVANT INFO and keep on learning! :D
Original: I don't know what to do. I'm not sure if it's because of the changes of the website or what but on Saturday I kept my streak from the duolingo app (I later checked from the website as well), later on Sunday I wasn't able to do it (But I had a purchased streak freeze) and now it's completely gone.
Is there any way to fix this?
Thank you very much.
@ReidHT, it should work even if you log in but don't earn points. (I've done that before, answered questions all day and forgotten to earn points.)
@Mausselin I recommend filing a report through email@example.com Let them know all of the steps you took to maintain your streak, date of incident, etc. Be sure to include your Duolingo username.
Meanwhile, be sure to keep your new streak going and don't forget to equip a new streak freeze. I hope staff are able to get everything straightened out!
Thanks. I've done it already (2 days ago).
I'm considering it might be coach related (and that's supported by some of the comments here) but I'm not entirely sure. I'm quite sure I didn't make a mistake related to it though and clearly remember how I had succeeded in maintaining the streak and always had a "freeze streak" (that wasn't wasted at hand).
I hope they respond to my issue (and other people's) at some point.
Please be mindful with what kinds of requests you send through support. This isn't a giant company with a huge budget for an enormous support staff. Duolingo has a very, very tiny staff. So, if it's something you can Google instead, it makes the most sense (and likely leads to the least amount of frustration). A Google search of Duolingo account timezone will yield the information that your time zone matches where you were when you first created your account.
With the coach feature, that golden rule for streak matching the time zone at the onset of one's account might change for some folks who are in the beta test group. But, they have a count down clock.
EDIT: Or just ask wazzie, who is brilliant xD
Wazzie's way worked!
The reason for emailing support is there should be a way to see this on one's profile even if you can't edit it (ignore that I think it's crazy you can not change it).
Personally however had idea when and where I actually created my DuoLingo account. It could have been in any one of 13 countries over the last two years. Turns out it was indeed in Hawaii (home) which I suspected but wanted to verify.
That is still crappy however because I'm currently in Italy which is an 12 hour time difference from Hawaii. That means my streak timer resets at noon. If I practice today before eating lunch at 11:30am and then tomorrow after eating lunch at 12:30pm I lose my streak. The good news is if I do one lesson at 11:55am and then a second lesson at 12:05pm I don't have to practice at all the next day. Yeah... it's all a bit confusing isn't it...
I too lost my 167 day streak today. I've been practicing daily and had streak freeze insurance. Now that I lost this streak and came to the discussion boards, I've noticed the new 'coach' feature. Why couldn't they have given warning if we have to now choose and reach a goal in order to keep a streak?
I only use the app, and it asked me to set a goal when i signed up a few weeks ago. I just checked my homepage on the web though, and the owl in a tracksuit is there with a prompt to set a daily goal (as if i had not yet done so), so i'm not sure what's going on. Seems like it's happened to quite a few people though.
I have completely avoided setting a goal. :P
Hopefully we can help other folks avoiding losing their streak. If y'all want to help me spread the word about the Wiki's new Coach troubleshooting page that would be much appreciated. Just drop it in wherever you encounter people talking about the coach or posting for help in the troubleshooting forum. Here is the link: http://duolingo.wikia.com/wiki/Troubleshooting/Coach
I avoided setting a goal because I didn't know it existed-just kept going with my daily lesson or strengthen skills routine. Yesterday I had 166 day streak with freeze purchased, and today as soon as I got here....0- no warning and my freeze is gone too. I set the goal in panic mode, hoping to see my streak back in action.
In my case. I HAD set the goal to 1xp so that wasn't the issue. I HAD confirmation of my streak on Saturday and had a freeze streak that should've been "used" on sunday when I didn't log in (but I still have it).
Something is not entirely right with how the coach feature is working. Maybe they've surreptitiously inserted a bug with freeze streaks while checking some coach condition.
Today, this is the email I received at 8:30am- it's like a slap in the face. Someone, somewhere in duo lingo, is still keeping track of my old streak, but all I see is my little ol' 2.....
"Daily Spanish Reminder
Hi DGerhart1, you are on a 167 day streak! Use Duolingo today to make it 168."
Hopefully, you won't take this as further insult. I think it's a good sign that Duolingo is still tracking your streak. Test features are like an overlay. When they have bugs, they can cause glitches in the display. But, the system the test feature has been attached to is still running properly, collecting the data just like always. The only thing being distorted is the visual display on the other side. (Though, they need a disclaimer about one's goal being the new base requirement of the streak. -__-) This is a beta feature, and just like a beta course is full of bugs. But unlike a course, test features are decidedly less permanent fixtures. I've been in a ton of A/B groups that were scrapped after testing.
Hopefully, that notification will encourage you to keep your streak going. If you do, there is still the chance that your actual--rather than displayed-- streak will eventually be reinstated on the display end.
That's a good way to look at it and it did encourage me to sign on and earn my 1 xp to reach goal again. I'm glad I checked the emails before the day expired because with a streak of '1', I wasn't motivated to continue daily, but knowing that my old streak is out there somewhere, I couldn't let my hidden streak expire....even bought the streak freeze again:-) It is a glimmer of hope that not all is lost.
My hope was short lived. Today's email:
"Daily Spanish Reminder
Hi DGerhart1, you are on a 2 day streak! Use Duolingo today to make it 3." I will keep moving forward, it's just hard to know that we could lose a streak not because of forgetfulness on our part but because duo decides to wake up one day and make surprise changes.
Can anyone suggest how I can log in? I stopped using duolingo because I forgot my password. I have now got the new password and for that session it worked. However, although I am getting reminders when I try to use it there is no log in page. I get the beginners page which then tells me to create a new account but of course it won't let me because I already have an account with my email address
