Great Way To Boost Your Spanish Vocabulary

Here's a great idea to help boost your Spanish vocab:

The "Cheerios" cereal is popular amongst Americans and is sold in most supermarkets. At least once a year, the cereal company includes a free book in their cereal boxes. The books are in both English and Spanish text and are pretty fun to read if you're just starting Spanish. The books are directed for preschoolers and have basic vocabulary. If you're just starting to read in Spanish, these books may be a really nice Spanish supplement.

Cool. How DO you hug a porcupine???

I often wrap a blanket around them first, then hug them. The next question is why I do it in the first place...

Sadly, as a teacher in a dual-language school, we find that direct translations of popular story books often lose the finer nuances of a story and may steal the essence of the messages. It is fun to read bilingual texts, but so much better to read true-to-culture stories in order to gain, not only a stronger vocabulary, a stronger understanding of culture and background.

Hmmm.... I'll have to look into what you're saying. The books have made sense to me and the translation seems accurate.
