Achievement System!

Hello,

I don't know if this was suggested before, but what do you guys think of an achievement system in Duolingo? I think it would be fun, entertaining and even more motivating! There could even be language specific titles. I was thinking of blending pop culture and traditional stuff from the most famous countries that language is spoken.

Here's a few suggestions so you guys may get a grasp on what I mean (I exaggerated for the sake of the examples and the fun factor I talked about):

Update: since we got so many creative people around here, I'll be updating this post with your entries on the replies on the end of this list! Thanks, guys!

Rich and Famous – get 1,000 lingots in a lifetime

Ganster Roll – get 5,000 lingots in a lifetime

Bailing Out of Control – Get 10,000 lingots in a lifetime

Prodigal Son – spend 3,000 lingots in a lifetime

And Then, He Rested… – get a 7-day streak

Do You Wanna Build a Snowman? – purchase a Streak Freeze

Duo Smashes – Get five skills to gold in the same day

Rise and Shine, Sleepy Head – learn a skill after losing a streak

I Put on My Robe and Wizard Hat – get Duo’s wizard clothes at the store (joke here)

What to Wear… – get all Duo clothes at the store

French Kisser – unlock all skills of two different languages (“tongues”, that’s how we call “languages” in Portuguese, see what I did there?)

Tri-Force – unlock all skills of three different languages

Multiverse Polyglot – unlock all skills of four different languages

The answer is 25 – get level 25 in any language

Ausgezeichnet! – unlock and learn all German skills [] also use the word "Excelent!" for every different language in this category, thanks language020

Überall – have all German skills unlocked and golden at least once

SCHMETTERLING!! – unlock "Animals" German skill (joke here)

The Undying Learner – finish a lession without any hearts

Tin Man is Happy Now – get a heart refill

We Don't Need no Badges – Get two checkpoints with all your lessons golden

The Force is With You – Finish three lessons in a row without losing any hearts

Trick or Treat? – Unlock "Halloween" Bonus Skill

My Preciousss – keep a 7-day streak attending in a language course you've unlocked the whole tree

That's just a few examples I could come up now. I think it would add a bit more of the gaming magic to Duolingo, which is a good thing IMO.

(Or it could just be straight, flat and boring titles).

There would be a tab next to "Immersion" up there where we could see our achievements and even switch, show or hide our titles for the show-off.

What do you guys say? Feel free to put here your own examples of fun titles!

Cheers.

Laughed at the title for a 7-day streak. Good one. Badges sound fun (what they are called on every other site I know of that has them). Here are mine:

Heartbreaker - Lose all three hearts consecutively in a lesson.

Butterfingers - mistype 500 words

Chatterbox - post 1000 times in the forums

Just came up with a new one: SCHMETTERLING!! - unlock "Animals" German skill ( reference here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZlATOHGj9EY )

This is a great idea. There are so many different activities on the site that could warrant these 'Achievements' - Follows, translation/immersion, progress/completion of trees, posting in the discussion forums, even up/down votes!

In fact, I've got one for excessive downvotes - 'Entering Troll Territory'. :-D

Well since you put Ausgezeichnet for German, might as well put excellent in all the languages...

Excelente! - Unlock and learn all the Portuguese/Spanish skills

Excellent! - Unlock and learn all the French skills

Eccellente! - Unlock and learn all the Italian skills

Uitstekend! - Unlock and learn all the Dutch skills

Fremragende! - Unlock and learn all the Danish skills

Den Scoth! - Unlock and learn all the Irish skills

(I used google translate for Dutch, Danish, and Irish achievements so if I am incorrect I am sorry)

As a former gamer (kind of) I really like this idea. I would also love to have customization things in the store. Hopefully I'll be rich enough the day ingots are useful for something =P.

There could also be a notice saying that you've reached your own personal high-score, in terms of XP in a single day and ingots in a single day.
