Is it only me, or does the word "conservación" sound weird when you play the entire recording? (seems to sound fine as an individual word, when I hover the mouse over it, though)

Yes, to me it sounds like "consersación" when you play the entire sentence.

No, you're right, my first language is Spanish and the recording sounds like "Conservasación" (that doesn't even exist XD) instead of "Conservación."

what's wrong with, "resource conservation is important"?

Why is "the" needed in the correct answer. In fact 'Conservation of the resources is important' is a much better translation in my opinion.

Yes, but remember, when in doubt, supply DL with the most literal transliteration possible! With random exceptions, of course.
