"Ik geloof niet dat hij advocaat is."

Translation:I do not believe that he is a lawyer.

In my head I always at first translate advocaat as avocado

how about "I have no faith that he is a lawyer"?

I am keen to understand the nuances of the sente in Dutch. The use of "do not" rather than the abbreviated "don't" is quite emphatic. Are the English phrases "I don't believe" or "I don't think" closer to the phrases that would actuall be used in English in the equivalent situation

I understand the sentence, but sometimes I'm still unsure about the proper use of "geen" -- or situations where it's not used. Would it also be correct to say "Ik geloof dat hij geen advocaat is" …?
