Nous sommes les champions, mes amis...
Finished my French tree after 102 days! I'm going to try to brush up on some of my lessons that have depleted strength bars, and then seek out more French language music, movies, and conversation. Maybe edit some more Duo articles. Then at some point I will get back to my 2/3 finished Spanish tree. I was doing French and Spanish together for a while, then decided to concentrate just on the French until I finished the tree.
This is the soundtrack for my victory lap. Sing along with me!
Nous sommes les champions, mes amis... et nous allons continuer le combat à la fin
Nous sommes les champions, nous sommes les champions,
Pas de temps pour les perdants, parce que nous sommes les championnnnnns...
Congrats!!! :) It's amazing that you managed to do this in only 102 days! I find French kinda hard so I still haven't finished my tree :) I need to be sure of everything before doing another lesson hahahaha. So it will take ages :D
I had studied French before, many years ago in high school - but that was still 6 semesters of consecutive instruction with a teacher, tests, etc. So a lot came back quickly when I picked up DL. If you are learning it for the first time it will go slower. Just practice a little every day, find people to practice conversation with where you can, and over time it will really pay off.
Yeah, it took me two years to the day (with some inactivity) so it seems nuts
and the cool thing about DL is that people can take it at their own pace. A lot of times when I found myself on a unit that was coming very naturally, I would power down 10-20 lessons (or as many as my momentum would sustain). But other times I had to be gone or was busy for a day here and there, some weeks where I did barely 1 lesson a day.
The most important thing IMHO is not speed of acquisition (which will vary widely from learner to learner depending on their previous experience, linguistic aptitude, and available free time), but practice stretched out over time.
Well I took some French lessons 10 years ago, but as you can probably imagine I forgot everything I had learnt... Now I feel like a false beginner, because I recall some rules and words. My very close friend is French but as long as I'm not able to go beyond basics I won't be able to handle a conversation :). Well I've learnt a lot on DL and I am sure I will do better soon :D So that's why I am amazed by your achievement.
Félicitations à vous! Vous êtes à un niveau beaucoup plus élevé que moi. J'espère être à ce niveau bientôt. J'ai utilisé Google Translate pour l'ensemble de ce commentaire, par la manière. Suffit de copier et coller. Je suis un anglophone.
