Pronunciation of homem?

I found this really hard to make out when I encountered it in audio form; I think a combination of less than great quality and an unexpected pronunciation. My English ears keep hearing an "-ing" somewhere, actually. Can anyone describe the correct pronunciation?

Ohm-main. It's the closest you can get from the actual pronunciation. The o is not open or closed, it's nasal, like in the word "long". There's an invisible and short i after the e when it's followed by an m, and the m itself is not pronounced by closing your mouth, but by touching the roof of your mouth with the back of your tongue, so you're not wrong in saying you're hearing an "-ing".

"Homem" has two syllables. The letter h at the beggining of a word is unpronounced. The first o has an open sound (like o in hot). Mem is pronounced similarly to men in English, but it doesnt end in n,so the tip of your tongue doesnt go up at the end of the word, but the back
