"Where is the left mirror?"
Translation:Waar is de linkerspiegel?
What position verb would fit in that sentence, if I didn't want to use "is"? Would "waar staat de linkerspiegel?" be correct? I'm asking because I imagine that we're talking about mirrors in cars so it's not really "standing"... Would then "waar hangt de linkerspiegel?" be possible too?
Yes, a native speaker dutch here; "hangen" would also be correct in this situation. In general, where in the english language one says: "is", in the dutch language other verbs can be used that are more precise. Like "lopen", in the sentence: "waar lopen de koeien", "spelen"; where are the children playing. "Staan"; waar staan de glazen, (Where are the glasses). "liggen", waar liggen de dekens (Where are the bankets). And in regards to mirrors. mirros can stand (staan) if they are standig on their own in a room, or a mirror can hang, if they are connected to a wall or a roof or a door as is a car.
