Microphone doesn't understand me
I've had the microphone on and it rarely works. It is picking up my voice (I can play it back and clearly hear myself) but Duolingo isn't recognizing what I'm saying. I've tried saying the words faster, slower, louder, softer, closer to the mic, farther away from the mic. I've changed my mic settings to get rid of background noise. I even had my mom, who is fluent in French, say the words and it doesn't understand her either. Occasionally if I baby it just right it works, but often it doesn't. Any advice??
We're taking a look at this. We've found that some mics do a better job at picking up the lower registers in your voice, so you might try speaking lower, however, that is not a solution. As I mentioned, we're going to look into this further and see what we can do. Thanks for your patience as we figure this out.
I have a low voice, and my mic still isn't picking up what I'm saying -- keeps asking me to repeat.
I've had this same maddening problem. Saying the correct phrase MULTIPLE times but Duolingo rejects it every time and then I'm unable to move on in the lessons. This problem makes the program worthless. Get it fixed Duolingo, or every participant will be quitting what is otherwise a fantastic program!
Any new thoughts on how to deal with your microphone not picking up your words. My microphone is working well, just the program isn't recognizing when I speak some of the words. Totally misses some.
i just tried whispering, it worked, or almost saying it in a soft creepy voice.
This looks like an old thread, but I have the same problem. When I use Duolingo on my phone, I get a "correct" response to my speech nearly 100% of the time, but I prefer to use the PC because I can type faster. When I speak the answer on my PC, it waits and waits, as if it's waiting for me to speak, then finally, it says, "incorrect". I've given up speaking on the PC. I just click the "Can't speak now" option.
