This is a good course - I started it at a previous presentation some months back. Unfortunately due to timing I was not able to complete the course - but I will do so this time round. It does not compete with Duolingo, being quite different in the way it is presented. The teaching happens by following a short film and then discussions and projects to be completed. They are not difficult, and great fun.

Registration opened a few day ago, and the course starts on 11 November 2014, going on for six weeks.

I can recommend it as an excellent additional resource

No, not as far as I know, but you can do courses in other subjects in Spanish ... that would be quite a challenge if you wanted!

Not really, I speak Portuguese as a native language, and I have a high level of Spanish due to having lived with Spanish people for years, not to mention a B1 diploma taken years ago. I am planning to take another Spanish course as soon as I am fit to go for the Proficiency level, but for that, I need to brush up on grammar, and other stuff, as people rarely correct my mistakes. But understanding is not an issue. Besides, right now, I am only interested in studying Languages or Sports, and they don't offer many courses like that. But thanks, I think I will try to contact them

More detail from the above link to the course:

Distributed in 6 modules, the course is more oriented towards communication and social interaction than to mastering the formal resources of Spanish: its ultimate aim is to provide its followers with the means to solve basic tasks or problems typical of daily life, using Spanish to do so.

The course is organized around fundamental functional nuclei (see below), and provides audio-visual material for the presentation of the contents and its contextualization. Learners will also have other materials available through different media (conventional material in PDF, Power Point presentations, forums, wikis, etc.). The course has been designed to stimulate autonomy and cooperative learning.

do you know if registration is still open? I went to the link and completed the registration sign up last night- it said I had successfully registered and would get an email with my user and password info - but I've gotten nothing since then - I tried to sign up again, and got the same thing- and since then I can't even get the website to open -can't tell if the website is down or if there's a problem at my end. thanks for any info

https://www.duolingo.com/Hucklebeary

Hmm, I would have thought it would be closed because the course began 3 days ago but maybe since it's only módulo 1 they're leaving it open for an extended time since it wouldn't be too hard for someone to catch up during the first section. Seeing as how it said "successfully registered" then I guess that's the case.

Did you check your spam folder? Or every folder? I use gmail and you most likely do as well and it came into the updates tab. First they send a confirmation email that you need to click.

As of right now I'm having no problem with their website but they did send out an email that some students were reporting an inability to download los documentos de módulo uno so maybe they were experiencing some other technical difficulties?

There support and FAQ page is here

And if you need to contact them you can do so here.

They may just need to resend you the email if you can't find it among your folders and labels.

Good luck!

Edit: p.s. they're only on the first part and here's the video if you'd like to watch it now so when and if they do resend your email and get you all set up you can just go straight to the activities.

https://www.duolingo.com/Margolf

I heard back from the support team at MiriadaX- never got the email, but they sent me a password, and I guessed that the userid was my email address....so I was able to get in just now- the course is still open for enrollment and I just got it initiated....so I think it's all going to work. Have only listened to the first video and completed the initial questionnaire-my impression is that the big benefit for me is going to be the listening practice- they are speaking at normal (ie 'lightning!') speed, so that's going to be my biggest challenge. It looks like the vocabulary is likely to be familiar -so I can concentrate on actually hearing it.

thanks for posting the link to this- I never would have stumbled on this course without the posting!

https://www.duolingo.com/Hucklebeary

Hey dude that's great to hear :)

And I agree, the best part about this is the listening. I'm sure as the modules progress there will be plenty that we learn as far as vocabulary goes but the listening for sure. That and the finer nuances of certain things.

For example, in the first one alone you see a woman great everyone with "buenas" alone and that can mean "hello" to everyone... which I didn't know. I knew qué tal but never knew you could say ¿qué tal estás?. I also hadn't encountered encantada de conocerte as a substitute for mucho gusto...

And other little things like the exclamations/imperatives such as oye to mean hold on, just a minute, hey, excuse me. or the use imperative of mirar several times in the video which, in context seems to get used to say "ok so look" or "ok, so check it out". Something we might say to get someone to focus on something we're about to explain.

Those little tidbits I think are the gold. Learning the day to day peccadillos and such.

Good luck and perhaps I'll catch you on the forums or in the P2P assignments :)

thanks for your reply.... I've tried a few things.....some of their other courses show as 'cerrado' - so it appears that this one is still open- I tried asking it to reset my password....and again it tells me it's sending an email, but nothing has shown up......thanks for the links - I found the intro video, but not the others.....I'm hoping that the problem is temporary and may be related to some website issue at their end- have checked junk folders, etc.......nada.........It did force me to compose a request for assistance in Spanish!...I included an apology for my poor Spanish...LOL

Hmmm... I was wondering if you made a typo in your email on the initial registration but if you just asked it to resend your password it's unlikely that you made another typo in the email when it asked for it.

Good luck and let me know their response.

Hi, Why don't you sign in with your pass word and then use this link: https://www.miriadax.net/web/espanol-salamanca-a2-2ed I had the same problem and got this link from someone else. It worked for me. Towards the bottom of the page it gives the modules. Simply click on 'Acceder' on Modulo 0, and you are away .... Hope it helps for you too!

https://www.duolingo.com/Margolf

yeah- I had the same worry........got the 'success' message when I asked for the password again..........but got nothing.......then I tried to re-register...and the message said I'm already registered........then I registered with a different email address-- got the success message saying I'd get an email.......no email........tried forgot password to get it to send me a new password.........got the success message saying it would send password in email.........nada.......

(I keep hearing the 'doo doo dooo doo' outer limits music)..... so.......I got nothing

https://www.duolingo.com/Margolf

can't sign in with my password-- because I never got a password.....you only get the password when they send the email.....I never got an email........only got promises that it was going to send me an email........no email.......no password.....

Did you get the initial letter saying you have been registered? The letter you got to inform you that you had registered should have your username - 'tu usuario' and your password, 'tu contrasena' towards the bottom of the letter. That is the only letter I got - it confirms your registration and gives the password. I got nothing else. Hope you can find it.

https://www.duolingo.com/Margolf

no- that's the problem........when I registered, I got the message on that screen telling me that I had successfully completed the registration and I would get the email with userid and password- but then I never got any email - and yes- I know about junk mail and filters and all of that- there was no email - and I registered again with a different email address in case it was something wonky between mail servers- nada- same issue.....so I wrote to the support people asking for help - in Spanish, so that will be interesting........it may turn out that the course is really closed even though it says it's open...if so, i'll have to watch for the next time- I can see some of the videos now with links people have posted.....but I would prefer to actually do the course if this sorts out......if not, it looks like they offer it from time to time- i'll just have to figure out how you know when the next date is ...I just heard about it yesterday, so was a few days late.....

I have just reread all your posts. I have not idea what is wrong. I did check, the course is still open so you can still enter. I guess your problem is to get a password ...

https://www.duolingo.com/Margolf

yeah- I can't figure out what the problem is...... the only thing I can think of is that something appeared to be going on with their website for awhile right around when I was initially registering.........the website kept coming up with error messages and things saying it was unavailable or down for maintenance....and then it came back........that was why I tried re-registering with different email - thinking maybe they lost some stuff during that period..........but it's gone on now for several hours......so I don't know.....and I don't know what's automatic on the website and what is dependent on people actually doing something... I thought the password reset would have been pretty automatic- but that accomplished nothing.

Have you gone to 'more', then 'all mail' or searched for 'miríada x' in your mail? I haven't had any issues with the site, myself.

https://www.duolingo.com/Margolf

I don't have 'more' and 'all mail'- not sure what mail program you are referring to. I use POP mail - and my email is downloaded simultaneously to 3 different platforms- I don't use the provider junk filtering (just to avoid missing mail problems) - so it's really rare for me to have mail go missing from all platforms - so-I have used 2 different email addesses -one on aol,one on cablevision's email........and I've looked on all platforms..........and I went back the the providers's servers to make sure they had not turned on some filter without telling users-

I have been getting email all day - to multiple addresses....no problems......and nothing has come from miriada........

I'm out of ideas......

I´ve participated in first edition. This course is very profesional and engaging. There are videos, tests, homeworks, etc. Its free, but if they have more advanced courses prepared like this one I would even paid for it :)

https://www.duolingo.com/RebeckaK

For those who have taken it already, would it be valuable to a B2 level student? Or is it more for beginners?

https://www.duolingo.com/roxyrenders

I would guess that the course would not be very beneficial for a B2 level. I was not a beginner but probably not up to A2. I had to watch the vidoes a couple times and work at translating the transcript and explanation materials to understand everything. Here is a link to the first Capitulo 1. You will see the units of study (Modules) for each chapter at the side. All of the videos are available on youtube. The Salamanca site provides downloadable pdfs of the information in the information Module videos.

I am hoping someone who is taking the course might be able to answer a question regarding how to navigate on the 'tests' . I'm taking the little multiple choice quizzes as I'm going along.....and I'm passing them - but when I've answered one of the questions incorrectly, I haven't been able to see the correct answer or any explanation - I see a message that says to try it again.......but nothing I click on let's me try to change the answer.....and when I've tried to start all over, it shows that I passed the test, so that's that ...........

if anyone can explain where to find answers to the questions I miss.......or how to 'try again', I'd appreciate the info - muchas gracias :)

Actually, I have the exact same problem..

https://www.duolingo.com/Lawrence.Anthony

I have let us say more or less the same problem. I answered P2P and yet nothing happened, thus my modulo 1 is still incomplete though I had done all exercises therein

https://www.duolingo.com/Margolf

have you made any progress wit the p2p homework exercise? I was able to load my homework-but never got the email they said we would get. I then looked in 'tarea' and can see that my answers are there......and I have some feedback from people.......but I can't find the 'feedback received' button they say we have to click. I tried to evaluate resonses from a couple of other people- but don't find any 'valuation' options...so not sure how this is supposed to work- the instructions don't appear to match the actual process....

When you go to Tarea, right at the bottom of the page are the responses to be evaluated. Click on the + sign to expand the submission for your evaluation, and to download the document click on the last word of the title which is the download button to get the document. Once evaluated, write your comments in the space provided as well as your evaluation (eg 4. Excelente). To send off your evaluation, press the continue button (siguiente) which will bring up a box identifying your comment and some further blurb ... I cant remember what ... At the bottom of the box is a rectangular box saying (I think) 'Valuar' or something like that. Click it and you're done. Hope this helps.

https://www.duolingo.com/Margolf

thanks for your reply- unfortunately, I can't see anything like that. I looked in the forum, and (if I'm understanding the Spanish comments correctly!!) it seems there may be some problem. I'll keep checking back but I'm not finding any + signs anywhere-- very frustrating as it's burned up a lot of time. I've seen feedback from people, and I've posted comments on other people's answers. but still don't seem to have broken the code........

https://www.duolingo.com/dancingbunny

I don't have a + sign either, and it took me a while to find it, but try looking at the very bottom of the explanation for the task in English, just after number 3 where it says 'view the assessment received' and right below the last line that ends with 'in MODULO 2 - TAREA'.

There will be 3 phrases: 1. Entrega tu tarea > 2. Valora a tus companeros > 3. Valoraciones recibidas.

You want the second one. When you click on it, there will be two lines, Ejercicio Numero 1 and Ejercicio Numero 2.

Now one of two things will happen, depending on if the other person attached a document or wrote straight into the box.

If they made an attachment, there will be a line that reads Dialogo - Espanhol.docx (10 Kb) Descargar. Click on Descargar (it means download). Then a microsoft dialog box will appear asking you if you want to save or open it. Just click open and then you can read it.

If they just wrote straight in the box it should appear right underneath ejercicio Numero 1 or 2. In this case you can read it straight away, though you also have the option to download it underneath.

I don't remember where the box is for you to write your comments in, it doesn't appear for me anymore because I've already done it, but I hope you find it anyway.

Hope this helps!

https://www.duolingo.com/Lawrence.Anthony

yes I did..but I can not remember how I was able to complete the task...

https://www.duolingo.com/Hucklebeary

I had the same problem initially. It seems that by just typing it into the quick submission box, it doesn't submit for some reason.

easy fix... go back and resubmit your homework by submitting it in a file. either a .doc or a .txt. So open notepad or word or openoffice and just put your homework in there, save it and then submit the document. That will definitely go through.

Once you submit that you'll get your evaluation/corrections from two peers and you'll get the email telling you that two peers have been assigned to you for you to evaluate.

To evaluate, you go back to the módulo 1 section, go back to tarea p2p and scroll all the way down to where you submitted. Now "valores de tus compañeros" should be clickable.

Once you've selected option #2 ... "valores de tus compañeros" two icons with + symbols will appear. Each one of those expands the document submitted by that person. Click descargar (download) and either download it or simply open it. Once you've read their homework, go back to site on the same page and enter your evaluation with the number you choose (i.e. 1-4 of the rating guide that's directly above where you're entering your evaluation). If they made errors, tell them. If not, just put #4 ¡excellente!

Then submit.

Once you do that for both, tarea p2p will complete.

https://www.duolingo.com/Margolf

thanks to both you and dancingbunny for taking the time to reply. none of the links were active for me so I had nothing to click on - I wound up resubmitting the homework as a doc file-- that gave me some feedback so it seemed to work better than the 'box' which I previously used. Then I got messages that said they didn't have enough responses to give me anything to evaluate and that I didn't have any evaluations to receive/review....I think it said it would send me a notice when they had something.......so, I guess that's progress. They clearly have a few kinks to work out - LOL...... I gave you both a lingot :)
