Free Polish Learning Materials (WIP)
Polish has come to a halt in the Incubator for reasons unbeknownst to us. I wanted to share some Polish learning materials with everyone who is waiting for the course to keep up the Polish learning morale of everyone. If people like this, I may do this for other languages.
http://www.digitaldialects.com/Polish.htm - Digital Dialects is an interactive game that teaches basic vocabulary for many different languages. It's not the most beautiful but the audio has been recorded by native speakers and it's a good place to get started.
http://mowicpopolsku.com/ - A beautifully designed website for learning Polish. It's not a complete comprehensive course and the grammar and video/podcasts sections are severly lacking but pronunciation is throuhgly explained. Everything has native audio and you are given a list of basic verbs and vocabulary.
Polish Grammar in a Nutshell: http://www.skwierzyna.net/polishgrammar.pdf - A short (only 76 pages) quick guide to Polish grammar, its skims the surface of the language and provides you with ample vocabulary and some example sentences.
Contemporary Polish Grammar: http://polish.slavic.pitt.edu/grammar.pdf - A book from the Univeristy of Pittsburgh from their Slavic Department. I have this book myself and I feel that it's good for getting your feet wet in Polish. Be warned though it does go a little heavy with jargon.
https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLB23B3D17C5492D86 - These aren't your average lessons. They're much more crude and intended to be funny. If you're more advanced in the language and interested in learning vulgarities from a muscular Polish guy, then here's your ticket, you can thank me later.
https://www.youtube.com/user/MrRealPolish/featured - This is a serious channel for learning Polish and he takes an interesting method in his 30 or so short beginner videos. He does not translation to English but rather demonstrates what he's saying and it's quite effective if you learn better this way.
I hope to add more to this soon. Please let me know what you think and if I should continue and do more of these for other languages.
Polish's Incubator percentage has actually started moving these last two weeks. However, many courses are diverging in content from the default. This tends to make the percentages shown in the Incubator unreliable. Many courses have added a lot of material without their percentage seeming to increase ;). Thank you for posting these resources though! I'm sure people wanting to learn Polish will appreciate it ^_^
Thanks. I wish the existing contributors would work on the courses (Romanian is having the same problem) or Dl could find new contributors.
I'm not particularly interested in learning either, but its sad to see them stalled for the other people that have interest in them.
How about the Book2 lessons in Polish - from any of abut 50 other languages? Polish from German, Polish from Japanese, etc. No grammar, but the sentences are so easy that you may not need much (especially if you know any other Slavic language.) Good audio, no testing except self-testing. (You can work between any two of the 50 languages, it's not just a Polish site.)
